The Joy of a Purposeful Lfe

“Two of the ultimate gifts that one can experience in life is: 1.) discovering your purpose; and 2.) celebrating it.”

Growing up, I was sort of a romantic-idealist. I thought that life was similar to a Disney movie, where everything came easily and instantly. This made me overly optimistic and slightly naive in dealing with things.

I graduated college thinking that I could do anything if I worked hard and prayed. Needless to say, that’s not how it panned out. Life wasn’t always fair, people weren’t always good, and prayers didn’t work the way you wanted them to.

Distraught and discouraged, I transformed to an indifferent, jaded wanderer. Life wasn’t what I thought it was and I had a hard time accepting it for several years.

True time and a lot of prayers, I matured and realized that I couldn’t control life. God was in control. I decided that if I was going to find happiness in working again, I would have to work on something that fulfilled my purpose in life. This is when I rediscovered my love for writing.

Pursuing writing a career wasn’t always easy. It had its ups and downs, but I knew in my heart that this was what I wanted to do. I learned that being meant to do something doesn’t necessarily make the journey easier, but it does allow you to achieve more and be more.

I also learned that if you’re celebrating your purpose, a great zest for life follows. You’re always hungry to learn more and be more. You’re also ready to fight for it when times get though.

I founded this blog, Jelatine Daily, several months ago, and it really gives me so much joy and fulfillment!  This blog complements my work as a freelance writer and communications professional. I love how I get to do both lifestyle journalism and marketing communications in the jobs and assignments that I get and that I can have a balance of both in my professional life.

CELEBRATING MY PURPOSE

Here are my fellow workshop attendees. I wasn’t part of the picture because I had to attend another event.

I attended a workshop the other day entitled, Celebrating Your Purpose with speakers: best selling author, Marianne Mencias and life coach, Kimi Lu.

The workshop reaffirmed that I was doing the right thing. Being a freelance writer/ communications professional, and blogger can be scary at times because it’s not a conventional job.

In this workshop, I was able to reaffirm that each person has a different purpose and that your light will naturally shine if you’re fulfilling yours.

The workshop also reaffirmed my love for writing through the talks and activities. It was a very fulfilling afternoon. I met a lot people with different stories to tell. It’s comforting to know that I am not alone in this journey, and that all of us just need to have faith in God that it will all work out.

I highly recommend taking the workshop, whether you want to:  discover your purpose, celebrate your purpose, or reaffirm your purpose. The next one will be this August! 🙂

KEY REALIZATION FROM THE WORKSHOP:

We are all important and relevant in the eyes of God. We’re all given a unique set of skills, talents, and traits that make us who we are. Find your purpose, celebrate it, and let it bring happiness to the world, and most especially, to God.

I’ll end this entry be sharing a free verse poem I did when I discovered that writing was my calling. If you’re reading this I hope, I’ve somehow inspired you to embrace life even more. You can also find inspiration in Marianne Mencia’s book What’s Your Life’s Masterpiece?.

I write because…
by Jel Tordesillas

I write because I want to make a difference.
I write because I want to spread what’s good, I write because I want to inspire.
I write because I want my voice to be heard.
I write because I want to freeze history through the use of a pen.
I write to express myself.
I write to overcome bad with good;
because I believe that this world has more good than bad, and that people should know that.
I write to tell the truth.
I write because the emotion that I feel has to come out somewhere.
I write because my imagination pushes me to go against monotony.
I write because I want to tell the world about the human condition.
I write to overcome wrongs with rights.
I write because I breathe, I eat and I sleep. It is a part of me, and I, undoubtedly have
made it a part of my existence.
I write…just because
